The anticipation has finally come to an end! We are thrilled to announce the winners of the Reading XL FC Away Kit Design Competition. Lots of creativity and hard work have culminated in two standout designs ready to be turned into the first ever official away kits for our founding team, and we think they're cracking!
The winning designs will be crafted by our kit partner, Appin Sports, who have already provided the fantastic Reading XL FC home kits for the upcoming two seasons.
Reading XL FC's Creative Players and followers deliver the goods:
This competition offered a fantastic platform for both players and local would-be designers to express themselves. They drew inspiration from their surroundings and a host of other places, resulting in a diverse range of styles and themes.
In total we received over 50 submissions, each reflecting artists’ personal styles and in some cases, connections to Reading. The judges faced a tough task evaluating all these incredible entries, while the competition not only drew in plenty of artistic participants but also created a lively discussion among the players, who were all quick to pick their favourites!
The Winning Designers:
Glen Saunderson's winning outfield design, the "Hexagon" kit, stood out with its striking black patterned look, inspired by one of Reading's most famous landmarks, The Hexagon Theatre.
Tom Giles's "Yellow Lion" design stood out the judges as a great option to turn into a goalkeeper kit and compliment the darker outfield tops to be worn by the players.
Nele Steele, who kindly took part in the judging process along with her colleagues from myTribe Insurance Experts, Reading XL FC's principal shirt sponsor; had a moment of inspiration, selecting the second design from the collection to become the goalkeeper kit.
The judges collectively navigated the judging process with ease and decisiveness and the final winning designs were agreed upon in record time - Top effort team myTribe!
From Concept to Creation:
Now that the designs have been chosen, they will enter the mock-up stage with Appin Sports. This is where the artistic vision takes tangible form. Appin Sports, known for their quality, will ensure that the kits perform well while looking great on the pitch as the away option to the royal blue and white hooped kits currently worn for home games.
Looking Ahead:
As we move on to the production phase with Appin Sports, we impatiently await these brilliant kits becoming a reality and send out sincere thanks to everyone who entered and once again to the team at myTribe Insurance Experts for their assistance in the judging process!
Stay tuned for more updates and we look forward to seeing these fantastic designs out on the pitch soon!
